Product Focus; Using Signaline HD+ Programmable Linear Heat Detector in Hazardous areas

, ,

Signaline HD+ is a programmable Linear Heat Detector. It offers users the ability to set their own alarm temperatures as well as a pre-alarm feature and rate-of-rise alarm.

Signaline HD+ linear heat detection system uses a special sensor cable. This cable runs along the entire area that needs protection. It works as a continuous heat sensor. It can detect temperature changes anywhere along its length due to resistance changes within the sensor cable. Signaline HD+ is globally approved by VdS and UL for universal usage.

Commonly use in harsh enviornments Signaline HD+ can also be used with a hazardous area.

What is a Hazardous Area?

Hazardous Areas exist where a potentially explosive mix of air and flammable gasses or air and dust or air, dust and gasses may occur.

When installing any electrical equipment into the hazardous area you must ensure the products are safe for use and will not be an ignition source.

Signaline Linear Heat detection is no exception to this.

A common application for hazardous area Linear Heat Detection is coal conveyors

Why Signaline HD+ Excels in Hazardous Areas

Unlike traditional fire detection systems, Signaline HD+ is engineered to function without generating any ignition source. The system uses intrinsically safe (I.S.) barriers to separate safe and hazardous zones, ensuring full compliance with international safety standards.

Key benefits include:

  • Extended coverage of up to 500 metres per zone
  • No moving parts or exposed electronics in hazardous zones
  • Custom calibration to account for I.S. barrier resistance
  • Pre-alarm and alarm thresholds for early detection
  • Flexible installation using optional non-sensing leader cables

Ideal Applications

Signaline HD+ is particularly suited for:

  • Oil & gas facilities
  • Chemical processing plants
  • Fuel storage depots
  • Mining operations
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Paint and coating facilities

These environments often present challenges such as dust, humidity, and airflow that can compromise conventional smoke or spot heat detectors. Signaline HD+ overcomes these limitations with continuous linear heat sensing and rugged environmental resistance.

How to safely connect Signaline HD+ in the hazardous area?

Signaline HD+ is safe for use within the hazardous area when used with the compatible I.S Barriers.

Signaline HD+ controller should also be mounted withint the safe zone and then the sensor cable connected into the hazardous area. It is vital that Hazardous Area Installation Manual is followed.
