What is a Programmable Linear Heat Detector?
Linear heat detection is a simple and easy to use form of heat detection. It utilizes a temperature sensitive cable and control unit to indicate if over-heating has occurred in the protected area.
Signaline now offers both resettable and non-resettable linear heat detection.
Non Resettable linear heat detection, such as Signaline FT or Signaline FT-EN, uses a two core cable that will activate at a certain temperature. Once activated the length of cable in alarm will need replacing.
Whereas Signaline HD+ will return to a normal state after an alarm event providing the cable hasn’t been damaged.
What makes Signaline HD+ programmable is that it has the capability to have set pre-alarm and alarm temperatures.
Meaning that you can tailor the linear heat detection to the required specification of the area that you are protecting.
Signaline HD+ Controller and End of Line Complete the system and allow for user selectable alarm temperatures
What are the benefits of Programmable Linear Heat Detection?
Linear Heat Detection is unique in being a detector in cable form. Meaning you can run cable into areas that other fire detections devices cannot go. For example, running linear heat detection around car parks or solar panels is a very affective form of heat detection.
Signaline HD+ has a number of additional benefits compared to current Linear heat detection products.
Firstly, the programmable alarm temperature allows installers to set specific alarm and pre-alarm temperatures. Ensuring that any over-heating is detected and reported at the earliest opportunity.
The construction of the cable also ensures protection against environmental factors like moisture, dust and saline environments, eliminating false alarms.
Being available in various outer coatings allows Signaline HD+ to be used in nearly any application regardless of environmental conditions
Signaline HD+ is also UL approved and carries EN54 part 22 approval from VdS. This dual approval allows this product to be used across European and global markets.
With easy fire and fault connections Signaline HD+ programmable linear heat detector can be connected to any fire detection system or used as a stand-alone over-heat detector for special applications.
Where do you use programmable linear heat detection?
Linear heat detection is not affect by environmental conditions. Therefore it is a perfect solution for fire detection in environmentally challenging conditions.
For example, car parks are often exposed to moisture, dust and exhaust fumes. Yet, as seen in recent car park fires in Luton airport or Liverpool arena, fire detection in these environmentally difficult areas is imperative.
Other applications for Signaline HD+ Programmable Linear Heat Detection include –
False ceilings void – Signaline HD+ can be placed in the space between the hard constructed ceiling and false ceiling.
Industrial kitchens – where fluctuations in ambient temperature and environmental gases and oil are to be expected programmable linear heat detection is an excellent solution to detect over heating conditions
Escalators and moving walkways – hard to access and with likely mechanical risks using Signaline HD+ can be used to ensure detection of any over heating
Recycling centers – the mixture of materials that converge at recycling centers can lead to an increase risk of fire. Signaline HD+ is not affected by environmental conditions and can provide affective early warning of over heating
Power cables – from renewable to non-renewable power generation, power cables are critical to modern day infrastructure. Often exposed and in unmanned areas power cables can be a source of fire. Signaline is on a mission – We are determined to detect any heat, anywhere, but we are also determined to reduce our ecological impact.
Therefore, we have been ruthlessly eliminating our plastic packaging.
When we launched the Q clip in 2023 our design brief was to remove the requirement for plastic tie wraps when securing Signaline Linear Heat Detection while ensuring compliance with the EN54 installations standards.
Target set; target hit. But then we realized we were scoring a massive own goal by packaging them in a plastic bags!
Time to wake up and get this sorted!
And we are now pleased to announce that all our clips will be supplied in recycled and fully recyclable cardboard containers and not plastic bags.
Old plastic packagingNew cardboard packaging which is fully recyclable
Glad to have got that sorted we then took aim at the linear heat detector itself. Often supplied to our customers on toughened plastic pallets we needed to remove the usage of plastic here too.
Simple – switch from plastic to wooden pallets, right?
Wrong! Did you know that 25m cubic metres virgin wood is used for pallet manufacturing each year in Europe alone! This removes a vital carbon sink and food source from the wild.
So the search was on to find a pallet that is tough enough to ensure safe delivery of Signaline Linear Heat Detection to our customers, but with the lightest environmental footprint…..And we may have just found it!
All palletised deliveries will now be on recycled and fully recyclable presswood pallets. And why are these so good I hear you ask?
100% recycled wood
100% recyclable
Zero glues, chemicals etc.
Stackable reducing shipping space and therefore CO2 emissions
ISPM15 compliant – Because presswood pallets are moulded under enormous pressure at a very high temperature, they do not need to conform to the strict ISPM 15 regulations which make them a good choice for export
Old plastic pallets will be phased outReplacement Pressedwood pallets which are fully recyclable
Why stop there!
Our next step will be the removal of all instructions manuals from Signaline products. That’s right – installers will now need to guess how to program a Signaline LocatorPlus or how to assemble a Signaline UCB into a junction box.
Don’t worry – just kidding!
We will be replacing all manuals with QR codes allowing instant access to all our manuals from anywhere in the world and reducing our paper and printing consumption and thereby our ecological footprint.
We will be making the above transitions from the 1st September 2024 so you may receive the odd ‘bag’ of clips or a non-recyclable pallet still. Ultimately it is better for the planet we use up what we already have than just chuck it out but after this period all orders will be received with 100% recycled and recyclable cardboard packaging and pallets.
So the choice is simple. Not only can Signaline detector anyheat, anywhere. We can also do it while having the least ecological impact.
To learn more about these changes or to find out more about Signaline can be your first line in fire detection please call +44 1252 725257 or email sales@lgmproducts.com

We are thrilled to announce that Signaline will be showcased on the Innovation stage at the upcoming Secutech Vietnam fire and security exhibition! This prestigious event, known for highlighting the latest advancements and breakthroughs in the industry, provides an exceptional platform for Signaline to demonstrate its cutting-edge solutions.
Signaline has been selected to present our range of Signaline FT cables and their critical use for early fire detection within conveyor and PV arrays (solar) systems.
Dao Hong Tam, from our partners Fast Fire and Security, will be addressing the audience at the Innovation stage on Friday 16th August 2024 at 10.50am.
Why choose Signaline FT Linear heat detection?
Linear heat detection is a method used to detect heat or fire along a linear path, such as in car parks, solar panels, tunnels or conveyor belts. It works by using a heat-sensitive cable that detects changes in temperature. When the cable reaches a certain temperature, it triggers an alarm or activates a fire suppression system.
Ms Tam will be explaining what Signaline FT is and why it is the ideal solution for conveyor belts and PV arrays (solar) applications.
Why use linear heat detection in conveyor belts?
Conveyor belt systems often carry flammable materials such as coal. Dust and small pieces of material fall from the moving belt and accumulate at the sides of the conveyor.
This settled dust provides a ready source of combustible material. The main source of ignition of the accumulated material is friction in the roller bearings caused by gritty particles of dust around a roller or the belt itself.
Signaline FT Linear heat detection provides early detection should overheating occur and can be easily installed in all conveyor systems with suitable fixing clips.
Available with both nylon and stainless steel coatings the cable will not be affected by the corrosive or mechanical risk within the conveyorbelt and linked with the LocatorPlus, Signaline Linear Heat Detection will give an exact alarm point location.
Why use Signaline in PV Arrays (solar) installations?
PV panels and associated electrical equipment pose specific fire risks that need to be addressed for proper fire safety in PV installations. PV systems generate electrical power from sunlight through the use of solar panels, which produce direct current (DC) electricity.
This DC power needs to be converted to alternating current (AC) for use in buildings or the grid.
However, the conversion process and the presence of electrical components increase the risk of fire. Faulty wiring, overheating inverters, and inadequate surge protection can lead to electrical malfunctions and potential fire hazards.
Signaline Linear heat detection is a specialized technology used to detect heat or sudden increases in temperature along a cable’s entire length. In the context of PV systems, linear heat detection plays a crucial role in detecting and preventing fires.
Unlike conventional fire alarm systems, which rely on individual spot detectors, linear heat detection provides continuous monitoring and early warning capabilities. This technology operates based on a fixed temperature threshold, triggering an alarm when the specified temperature is reached.
By promptly detecting and alerting to potential fire hazards, linear heat detection ensures prompt response and minimizes the risk of damage in PV systems.
So come to the Secutech Innovation Stage on Friday 16th August and learn how Signaline can increase your fire safety standards.

Signaline is pleased to announce the edition of the FT-EOL termination box to our Signaline FT range. This new end of line termination box is designed with the installer and ongoing maintenance in mind.
Not just another box!
The Signaline FT-EOL is designed specifically to be used with our range of Signaline FT linear heat detection cables.
In many applications the Linear Heat Detection is installed in difficult to reach spaces, such as ceiling voids or along conveyors, or in areas where regular live heat testing can be difficult due to operational constraints.
The new Signaline FT-EOL resolves this issue by incorporating into the termination box both alarm and fault test switches. Thus ensuring ongoing maintenance is a simple – just push the button!
Why have one when you can have two!
The Signaline FT-EOL is literally twice as good as it looks and it already looks pretty goood!
Inside the IP66 enclosure you will find not one but two terminations for Signaline FT cable.
Meaning that two zones of cable can be terminated in the same place. This reduces product site costs, decrease installation time and decreases ongoing maintenance and testing time but accessing two zones in a single location
The Signaline FT-EOL has been designed to be compatible with the LocatorPlus and Signaline FT range of linear heat detection cables.
Check out all the product features here or click here to download the datasheet.
